After JE, one Dengue case detected

Even as the Health Department has launched mass vaccination programme against Japanese Encephalitis at selected areas, one Assam Rifles personnel has been found infected with Dengue and he is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute.
Health Director Dr O Ibomcha told The Sangai Express that the AR personnel infected by Dengue has been recuperating at the hospital.
He said that the Health Department has initiated several measures to tackle vector borne diseases.
The AR man infected by Dengue hails from Uttar Pradesh and he is posted at Singhnat, Churachandpur district.
After a boy was found infected by Japanese Encephalitis at Irom Meijrao who was staying in a school hostel, 241 people residing around the hostel have been vaccinated against Japanese Encephalitis.
There are 8000 doses of vaccine in the department's stock, informed Dr Ibomcha.
The department has already opened a control room and it is monitoring the situation closely.
Except for Tamenglong and Ukhrul districts, mass vaccination programmes have been completed in other districts, he claimed.
No vaccination programme has been launched in the two districts because no single case of Japanese Encephalitis has been detected so far.
Nonetheless, the department has written to the concerned Ministry seeking due permission for launching mass vaccination programme in Tamenglong district.
Meanwhile, a 14 year old boy from Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district suspected to have been infected by Japanese Encephalitis is being treated in the ICU of Shija Hospital.
The boy's blood sample has been collected by staff of Imphal West CMO and the sample has been taken to JNIMS for necessary tests.
Meanwhile Shija Hospitals has written to the Health Department about the Dengue case and suspected Japanese Encephalitis case.
