Imphal, August 28 2015 :
Ima Panthoibi Street Vendors Union has urged the Government to keep a suitable common name acceptable to both hill and valley people for the market shed to be constructed at Khuman Lampak instead of naming it as tribal market shed.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, union advisor Y Indrani said that the union has been pressing the Government since 2011 through different memoranda to construct a market shed for the vendors who are selling different items at the space located opposite to Khuman Lampak bus terminus.
As a result, Government officials concerned had surveyed the area where Apex Co-operative Society is presently located for the construction of a market shed and hostels for ST boys and girls on August 24 .
However, the union has reservations over naming the market shed as tribal market shed although the Government's decision to construct a market shed deserves applause.
Saying that the union has been pressing the Government to construct a market shed for the street vendors of the area since past many years, Indrani said that the market shed must be given a common name acceptable to the people of both valley and hill so that harmony among different communities is sustained.Maintaining that the area is not suitable for the construction of girls and boys hostels as the area is too noisy, she urged the Government to look for another suitable area for the said purpose.
She further said that IPSVU would also take part in the suspension of activities stir to be held on September 2 .
