MHRC to inquire Abonmai case

Imphal, October 27 2021: The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has stated that the commission will inquire the case pertaining to abduction and murder of Athuan Abonmai on Spetember 22 last.

In a statement issued today, MHRC said that the commission has been informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs had directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take up the case.

However, the commission felt the need for further careful and deeper consideration and hence an inquiry will be conducted and the findings of which will be submitted to the Government of Manipur, added MHRC in the statement.

The commission will inquire the facts and circumstances leading to the death of Athuan Abonmai; identify the liability of the persons responsible for his death; find out any matters incidental thereto and will recommend measures for preventing recurrence of such incidents in future, it added.
