State joins R-Day celebration

As observed all over the country, the 66th Republic Day of India was celebrated at the historic Kangla Fort here yesterday with Chief Minister O Ibobi as the chief guest.
The colourful function started with presentation of guard of honour to the Chief Minister by a contingent led by 2nd IRB Assistant Commandant Lungjamung Tungmung.
After inspecting the guard of honour parade, Ibobi unfurled the tricolour before receiving the salutes of 120 march past contingents.
After hoisting the National flag, Ibobi gave away the Police Medal for Gallantry and Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service to 12 personnel of Manipur Police and Manipur Fire Service.
Thp Republic Day march past was commanded by 8th 1RB Com-mandant PG Singsit.
The march past parade was participated by contingents of ex-servicemen, BSF, CRPF, Manipur Rifles, Manipur Police (male and female), Manipur Fire Service, TSTCC, college and school students and other groups.
The parade also featured traditional dance and music items of different indigenous communities of Manipur.
In addition, 13 tableaus sponsored by different departments of the State Goveniment added more fun and colour to the Republic Day celebration.
For the 66th Republic Day celebration, main roads of Imphal city were decorated with attractive gates and colourful banners.
Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and top ranking civil and police officials attended the celebration while many people lined up on road sides to see the march past parade and accompanying dance and cultural shows.
The Republic Day was also celebrated at Congress Bhavan where the National flag was unfurled by MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
Meanwhile, the 66th Republic Day was celebrated under the aegis of 8 Assam Rifles at Berean Baptist Academy, Norey yesterday.
The celebration began with unfurling of the National flag by chief guest Col Rajiv Chaudhary, Commandant of 8 Assam Rifles amidst singing of the National Anthem by the students of the academy and a band troupe of the AR Unit, In Ms speech.
Col Rajiv Chaudhary emphasised on peaceful for rapid development of the area in particular and India in general.
Later, bamboo dance was presented by the students of the academy and pipe band display by AR troops, said a press release.
The chief guest also received salute of a march past parade which was taken out from the academy campus to 8 AR camp.

41 Assam Rifles of 10 Sect AR under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (South) also celebrated the 66th Republic Day with villagers of Awang Kasom and nearby villages yesterday.
After the celebration, a meeting was held with all the village headmen and chairmen of nearby villages.
They were informed about various opportunities and options available for the youth to join the Army and Assam Rifles.
The assistance con tinuously provided by the Recruitment Cell of 41 Assam Rifles at Ukhrul was brought to their notice, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S) .
