Speaking on the occasion Y Joykumar said that the difference in the mentality of the cadres of different UG groups and their leaders have sprung up and because of these differences many cadres are surrendering to the Assam Rifles and joining the mainstream.
He further questions the integrity of the UG groups when they are scattered among themselves.
A number of fractions of an UG coming out clearly indicates that they are on there for some business motive and are not engaged in the fight for freedom which they normally claim as their aim.
He went on to say that the recent killing of the Chaukidar of Irilbung Water Supply Scheme and his son for monitory demand was an act most despised.
He also appealed to all the cadres of various UG groups to desist from the path they have chosen and come to the mainstream and help out in bringing peace in the state.
Major General Binoy Poonam,GOC,57 complimented the courage and wisdom of the surrenderees in choosing to become responsible citizens of the state and contribute to progressive realisation of people's aspirations.
He also assured them of all assistance in their rehabilitation process and said that the police department is working closely with state administration to ensure that they receive their monthly sustenance allowances and packages in due time.
The rehabilitation also includes various kinds of vocational training for the cadres to facilitate good job opportunities and measures to attain financial stability in order to lead a respectable life.
He further stated that the vintage and misplaced concept of striving for a societal goal through violence, needs to be jettisoned emphatically.
The decision to shun violence by these youth, accordingly, is a step in the right direction and should act as a harbinger for numerous such positive events in the future.
The security forces on their part will encourage all such endeavours by all insurgent groups, both collectively and individually and shall continue to act as a facilitator in their rehabilitation and hence in their emergence as responsible citizens of the state.
He also expresses earnest hope that from this solemn occasion a better society shall emerge out of blood and carnage of the past -a society dedicated to the dignity of all the people living in and the fulfillment of their most cherished wish for freedom, tolerance and justice.
