Imphal, April 22 2012:
Governor Gurbanchan Jagat has extended his greetings to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Khongjom Day, 2012, which is being observed tomorrow.
In his message to the people, the Governor said that every year April 23 is celebrated as Khongjom Day in Manipur to mark the supreme sacrifices made by our forefathers like Paona Brajabashi and others who displayed indomitable courage and great Spirit of patriotism for the cause of their motherland.
The brave sons of the oil fought gallantly against the mightiest imperialist power and they never surrendered.
On auspicious occasion of Khongjom Day, while paying our humble tribute to all the valiant heroes of Manipur, who laid down their lives at the battle of Khongjom and other war-fronts in the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891, let us once again renew our pledge to protect and preserve the sovereignty and dignity of our country and strengthen the courage and spirit to challenge any forces that dare to destroy the nation and at the same time let us resolve to forget the past bitterness and differences and dedicate ourselves to bring peace and harmony in the state which will ultimately take our state to the road of socio-economic progress, the Governor exhorted.
