Tamenglong, December 18 2011:
Even as the total shut down of Tamenglong District Hospital, the lone referral hospital of the district, in protest against shortage of staff entered the second day today, agitating members of District Hospital Welfare Association, Tamenglong refused to open the main gate and attend to emergency cases.
Yesterday, agitating members send away all patients coming to hospital.
They contended that frequent transfer and posting of staff including doctors and nurses without any replacement has severely hit the normal functioning of the hospital.
While talking to this correspondent, the spokesperson of the Association informed that all the doctors and nurses from other PHC, CHC and sub- Health Centres are also likely to join the agitation if the authorities concerned fail to pay immediate attention and fulfill the demands.
At present, the district hospital has only 6 doctors against 14 post sanctioned.
Despite being the first referral hospital in entire Tamenglong district, it has no Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Paediatrician, Anaesthetist, Ophthalmic Assistant, SMO and Ayush doctor, the spokesperson pointed out.
Moreover, the hospital has only 9 nurses against 29 posts sanctioned, but no nursing sisters have been posted against the 5 sanctioned posts nor there is any Matron, the spokesperson added.
The District Hospital Welfare Association, Tamenglong has demanded posting of another 8 doctors, 20 nurses, 5 nursing sisters, two SMOs and one each of Matron, Ophthalmic Assistant, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Paediatrician, Anaesthetist, SMO and Ayush doctor to ensure smooth functioning of the hospital.
