Imphal, February 18 2015:
Chief Minister O Ibobi accompanied by Education Minister M Okendro and DGP Shahid Ahmed and senior police officials rushed to RIMS Hospital to check the condition of persons injured in the bomb blast at Masjid Road in Imphal.
After spending time talking to victims of the blast and enquiring about their conditions, the chief minister assured all possible help from the side of the administration during their treatment.
Afterwards, talking to media persons Ibobi said triggering such powerful explosion in a crowded commercial area is a cowardice act.
Expressing apprehension over the rise in lethal bomb blasts in market places, the chief minister wondered what the perpetrators will be gaining by carrying out deadly attacks at a place with large presence of innocent civilians, mostly women, children and small time traders trying to eke a living, and questioned the motive behind the attack.
Groups that engineered blasts in public place generally avoid owning responsibilities and tend to remain silent afterwards, the chief minister stated, asking what message the perpetrators wanted to send to the people through such types of violence.
He stated that the three personnel were injured while trying to get rid of the bomb from the spot by taking it towards the river bank in order to minimize civilian casualty.
He denied that the blast was a result of lapse in security measures, asserting that it will be impossible to check each and every person coming to the market.
