Kangpokpi, February 17 2015:
Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Kadangband killing has said it will go ahead with the proposed 5-day Economic Blockade in all National Highways from Tuesday midnight.
With the announcement of Thadou Students' Association, Sadar Hills to support the JAC's 5-day blockade, all the Kuki civil bodies within Sadar Hills have also endorsed the decision.
Thangminlen Haokip, Convener of the Joint Action Committee stated that the protest will go ahead as declared since "we have no intimation and positive response on the part of the state Government in spite of our announcement of the protest to lodge resentment over the state Government's failure to table the magisterial inquiry report in 15 days time" .
He said that the JAC had made it clear to the Government to furnish the inquiry report within 15 days but the Government has failed to probe into the "fake encounter" .
"We had opted for Magisterial Inquiry in lieu of Judicial with a view for immediate commencement and early culmination of the inquiry since the nature of the killing incident where an innocent civilian driver and a CAO of a SoO Signatory of Kuki armed organization were slain requires swift delivery of justice", said the JAC Convener.
However, the Government's silence and the delay in announcing an inquiry has hurt the sentiments of the people, said Thangminlen Haokip.
"We are very much aware of the ongoing HSE and HSLC Examination in the state said the JAC Convener and reassured once again that there will be no disruption both in transportation and in examination centres", informed Haokip.
He once again appealed all the state and inter-state transporters to "respect the blockade and abstain from any act of defiance that would aggravate the prevailing tension" .
He also urged the general public to lend support towards the JAC's method of protest with the resolve to halt repeated human rights violations by the Assam Rifles.
Meanwhile, announcing its support, Thadou Students' Association Sadar Hills maintained that the student body will continue to cooperate with the JAC till justice is delivered.
