Cabinet to discuss use of beacon light

Imphal, November 12 2013:
Following complaints of misuse of beacon light, flag-post and siren by some elected representatives, the State Cabinet would discuss the issue in its meeting scheduled tomorrow.
As per the guidelines of the Supreme Court, the red light with flasher on the top front of the vehicle should be used by the Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Chief Justice, Judges of the High Court, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Ministers, Leader of the Opposition, State Ministers, Advocate-General, Chief Secretary, DGP, Chairman of the Legislative Council, State Election Commissioner, Lok Ayukta, Chairman of the Advisory Board constituted under the NSA and pilot and escort vehicles.
Those permitted to use amber (yellow) light atop their vehicles while on duty are Chairman, State Public Service Commission, District Collectors, Superintendents of Police, District Judges, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate/Chief Judicial Magistrate, High Court Registrar-General, range DIG of Police, IG of Police, Law and order, South Zone at Madurai, Secretaries to Government, all department Commissioners/Secretaries, Accountant-General, Regional Inspectors-General, Transport Commissioner, Heads of Departments and Treasury Officers.
In the meeting, the State Cabinet would chalk out strategies to prevent misuse of beacon light and penalize those defaulters.
The guidelines for use of beacon light have been formulated under Rules 108 of the Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1987 .
