Imphal, September 11 2018:
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has cautioned that the State Government will face stringent agitations if the former Chief Engineer of Engineering Wing, Education Department, who was suspended twice in connection with alleged corruption, is appointed back to his former post.
Speaking to media persons at a press meet held at DESAM's office at Sagolband Meino Leirak today, vice president of DESAM, Nahakpam Edison Meitei claimed that Ch Gojendro who is also holding the post of OSD in Loktak Development Authority (LDA) was deputed for two years on 17 January 2014.Following alleged unethical practices by Ch Gojendro, the then Commissioner (Edu-cation-S), M Lakshmikumar Singh issued his (Gojendra) suspension order on December 16, 2016, he said.
However, he was allowed to be join/sent back as per a Court order after his suspension was revoked by the then Commissioner (Education-S) on April 25, 2017, he further claimed.
Edison stated that DESAM finds his resumption as the Chief Engineer suspicious and alleged that his return was possible because of pressure from various high-level individuals.
Meanwhile, a video showing Gojendro allegedly taking money from some contractors went viral on social media sites like Facebook and WhatsApp.
As a result, Principal Secretary Education (S) Vineet Joshi issued another suspension order on March 12, 2018, it stated.
However, the suspension order was subsequently cancelled on September 5, 2016, after the State Government allegedly failed to submit a charge sheet or to file an FIR regarding the matter against Ch Gojendro.
Stating that the lies of the Government have come forward, Edison claimed that it is rather unfortunate on the part of the State Government, Anti-Corruption Cell and other similar bodies for not submitting charge sheet against a person who has been caught in a video footage which proved enough that he is guilty.
DESAM will not let students study at schools or colleges set up by such persons, he said.
Citing instances of mishaps at schools due to improper infrastructures, he demanded the State Government and the authorities concerned to refrain from appointing corrupted persons at the Education Department and its related Departments and urged the State Government to serve befitting punishment to the culprits at the earliest.
He warned that DESAM will not remain a mere spectator if Gojendra is allowed to resume work or is appointed at Education Department or its branch Departments.
Various students union will join hands and launch stringent agitations against the State Govt, he further cautioned.
