Imphal, September 11 2018:
The protest rally taken out by CLP leader O Ibobi, MPCC president TN Haokip, Gaikhangam and other Congress MLAs during the Bharat Bandh called by Congress party yesterday testified that Congress is now bereft of sympathisers and the Congress leaders have very few followers, said BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary (administration) K Saratkumar.
Speaking to media persons at their temporary office at Canchipur, Saratkumar remarked that the bandh called by Congress party was the most unpopular bandh and it was a big failure.
Led by AICC president Rahul Gandhi, former Congress Ministers and incumbent MPs came out to streets and enforced the bandh which testified that they have very few followers and sympathisers.
In another word, vast majority of Indian people have rejected Congress party, he claimed.
The price of petrol reached Rs 300 per litre and the price of LPG escalated to as high as Rs 2500/3000 per refill when there was Congress Government in the State.
On account of bandhs and blockades invited by the Congress Government, the State experienced scarcity of all essential commodities, he said.
Asking whether the State Congress imposed the bandh just to impress their Central leaders, Saratkumar asserted that the bandh was a meaningless one.
Saying that there are many modes of agitation other than calling bandh, the BJP general secretary expressed astonishment over resorting to a mode of agitation (bandh) already banned by the Supreme Court.
He also conveyed gratitude to the people of the State for making the Bharat Bandh a big failure in the State.
BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesman Ch Chidananda said that Congress party is unable to recall the hardships faced by common people due to escalation of prices of all commodities when they were ruling the State and the country.
Congress has also failed to don the role of a constructive Opposition party, he added.
