Imphal, June 06 2009: Tell us to leave and we will leave but please do not kill us, cried a 27 year old Rajesh, a non-local from Bihar appealing the state based proscribed outfits in the aftermath of the spree of non-locals being killed in the last few days in Manipur.

In view of their safety, the state security personnel have started picking up non-locals from various places including their homes and work places and have kept them at Dharamsala, Thangal bazaar in Imphal since Friday.

Picked up from places such as Mayang Imphal, Pangal Siphai, Wangoi, Samurou, Hiyangthang and Langol, about 70 (seventy) non-locals including women and children are being kept at the Dharamsala.

Within this week, atleast four non-locals have been killed while another one was seriously injured when armed miscreants targeted them.

Suspected to the act of state based militant groups, letters were also found from two deceased in Bishnupur district addressed to Indian Occupation Force (IOF) which stated if the IOF continue killing innocent people, 'they' (suspected militants) would target 'their' (IOF) people.

And these killing sprees have become a cause of concern in the state.

Appealing the militants to stop killing non-locals in the state, a 27 year old Rajesh from Bihar stated they would leave the state if asked too and requested the militants not to kill them.

"If they don't us to stay in Manipur, they can tell us to leave and we will leave.

But please do not kill us", he said.

Calling upon the state government, the various NGOs and civil societies for help, Rajesh informed they left their homes and work places with no money to buy any food.

Some people have been starving since morning, he added.

It may be reminded here that earlier this year, following a spree of non-local killings in the state, they were all collected together at the Dharamshala for their safety.

With much support and help from the government, various NGOs and civil societies their expenses were bore and were released when the situation seems to have calmed down.

However, with the recent incident, there just seem to be no end to the spree of non-local killings.

In the meanwhile, police commandos of Thoubal district in Manipur claimed to have arrested a cadre of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), a state based proscribed outfit, involved in the murder of barber Lalan Thakur a little over an hour after the crime was committed Friday morning.

Adding that two other cadres of the outfit, self styled Sergeant and Corporal, involved in the crime have managed to escaped, the Thoubal district police has announced a cash award of Rs.50, 000/ to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the UNLF cadres.

It may be reminded here, Lalan Thakur, a barber hailing from Bihar was gunned down by armed miscreants early Friday morning at Wabagai Lamkhai market under Kakching police station in Thoubal district while he was shopping.

Addressing the press late Friday evening, senior superintendent of Thoubal district police, Clay Khongsai, IPS stated upon information of the incident the district police commandos along with 21 AR carried out a massive search operation in Wabagai, Hiyanglam, Tokpaching, Chingjao and Laphupat Tera areas.

And in the process the security forces arrested a 20 year old youth identified as Elangbam Rojit, s/o Ibomcha of Hiyanglam Makha Leikai, involved in the crime, from his residence at about 9:00 a.m., added the SSP.

On questioning, Rojit is reported to have disclosed that his elder brother Naobi alias Ipak, 30, was a corporal of the outfit.

Paraded before the media, Rojit revealed of the killing of the non-local earlier in the morning along with two other cadres of UNLF identified as S/S sergeant Samadram Jugol alias Thambaljao Singh, 31, s/o Bihari of Thoubal Haokha and S/S Lance Corporal Keisham Herojit alias S.Loktak s/o K.Achouba of Heirok Part II Laishram Leikai.

He also informed that the two managed to escape the scene while he was arrested by the security forces.

And with the aim to book the culprits as soon as possible the SSP has announced a cash award of Rs.50, 000/ to anyone, individual or security personnel, who can give information about the two absconding UNLF cadres.
