Consumer Club, Manipur today appealed the people to stop consuming packed juice of "Appy" brand informing that a packed juice product apparently a duplicate of this popular juice packed available in the market in plenty.
Briefing the media persons to its office at Governor road today president of the Consumer Club, W Manglem said the club came to know after one Soraisam Thoiba son of Tompok residing at 2nd MR complex lodged a complaint with the club.
He informed the club at when he bought a piece of the packed "Appy" of 200 ml juice from a shop at Nagamapal at a cost of Rs 12, it was found not "Appy" but a very similar one.
When the cover of the juice which was brought by Thoiba compared to another one of Appy brand, there found a gulf of different between in the leveling of the two covers.
Apart from this, the smell was also found not similar.
Following the complaint of Thoiba, members of the Consumers' Club along with him went to the shop where he bought the juice.
On enquiry, the shopkeeper informed that he took the juice packs from an agent called Two Enterprises.
From agent it was revealed that there have come many complaint of such similar packed while distributing the time and they used to replace the same when the complaint lodged to them.
Consumers go away without saying anything after replacing by original ones, the authority of the agent informed, the president added.
Recalling that there was instance of dead of two children in the state while consuming Fruity in the past, the president observed the need of taking care by the people while consuming the "Appy" juice with an appeal to people to stop consuming it till the actuality of the thing is known.
He further informed that they will lodged a formal complaint to the state health authority regarding the finding with the suggestion of sending for testing at Food Testing Laboratory in Kolkata and take up necessary action.
