Ukhrul, May 02 2011:
In protest against the unmandated declaration of Autonomous District Council (ADC) Act in the hill districts of Manipur, the Tangkhul Co-ordination Committee (TCC) has called 24 hours total bandh in Ukhrul district beginning from May 4 midnight.
In a press communiqu signed by its convener Jonathan Kashung, the TCC stated that according to the directive of the apex body of the Tangkhul frontal organizations, the TCC unanimously conducted for brain storming discussion on the issue and finally decided to call for a general emergency sitting on April 30 .
During subsequent meetings, it was collectively resolved to impose 24 hours total bandh in Ukhrul District beginning from May 4 midnight till the midnight of May 5 in protest against the alleged force imposition of discarded ADC Act in the hill districts of Manipur.
The TCC on behalf of all the Tangkhul Nagas with consensus on the issue strongly opposed the creation of Executive Director of DRDA, as it comes under the already discarded ADC Act, it said.
Maintaining that no developmental programmes/schemes would be allowed to be implemented under Executive Director, DRDA under any circumstances, the TCC demanded immediate withdrawal of the condemned and repressive ADC Act from the hill areas for the larger interest of peaceful co-existence of all the communities.
All the developmental programmes/schemes in the district should be implemented only through the Deputy Commissioner with immediate effect, TCC added.
It also warned that in case of ignoring the democratic voice of the people of Ukhrul district in particular, the allegedly communal Government of Manipur shall bear all the unwanted eventualities.
"All democratic ways and means shall be adopted to intensify the agitation till our legitimate demand is fulfill", it said.
However, Electricity Department, PHED, Telecom and Medical Department shall be exempted from the purview of the bandh, it added.
