Imphal, May 02 2011:
After the cinema halls in Manipur have remained shut down in protest against the restriction imposed over three cinema houses by a UG group, members of Film Forum Manipur (FFM) today staged a dharna in front of Usha Cinema hall here today.
Commencing from 10 am onwards, the protest demonstration continued till 3 pm.
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, chairman of FFM L Surjakanta informed that a day after the statement of KK Nganba group of KCP was telecast through ISTV on April 22, the last line of the newspaper report of the same statement appeared in the following morning mentioned imposition of restriction over operation of three cinema halls, namely Usha, Mini Friends and Pratap Talkies.
The reason for imposition of restriction over the three cinema houses have not been spelled out clearly and it has caused some confusion.
Accordingly, all the cinema houses remained shut down in protest from April 23 onwards.
Pointing out that screening of films at Mini Friends have been stopped long ago, Surjakanta said that if the UG group had said Friends Talkies, it would have been something to ponder about.
So, after all the cinema houses have remained shut down for nine days, the members of Film Forum Manipur took the decision of staging the protest on the 10th day today.
Appealing against causing any sort of disturbance to the functioning of cinema houses not just this time but at all times, Surjakanta informed that cinema houses would start normal functioning for five days from today and if there is any disturbance within these five days, intense agitation would be launched with the support of cine lovers.
