Death anniversary of Balram observed

Imphal, May 02 2011:
The 122th Death Anniversary of General Balram Sougaijamba who laid his life in the battle against Burmese army after the Seven Years' Devastation was observed today at Moirangkhom Sougaijam ground.
General Balram Foundation organised the observation function.
A book based on the life and works of General Balram written by B Kullachandra was released as part of the function by the chief guest of the function Elangbam Sonamani.
Offering floral tributes at the photo of the late general marked the observation function.
Speaking in the occasion, Sonamani said that General Balram was a true son of Manipur who fought for the sovereignty of the state.
He urged the foundation to construct a statue of the late general.
The water plant at Moirangkhom should be named after him since the plant was constructed on the community pond dug up by
the general.
Mutuwa Bahadur, Director, Mutuwa Museum, Kangujam Modhumangol Former Editor ISTV and Chongtham Samarendra, retired Director Arts and Culture also talked on the life and works of the late general.
