Suspect in Roma's killing found dead

Imphal, May 02 2011:
A person who refused to appear when police called him to record a statement in connection with the case registered with the death of 33-year old housewife, Leishangthem Roma of Kontha Khabam, was found dead in a suspicious manner at his home today.
Police has so far taken statements of around 60 persons in connection with the case after circumstancial evidence revealed that Roma was killed by unknown persons who concealed the dead body in the Irong (Naga) Nullah covered with straw.
One of the persons who failed to appear before the police when called to make a statement, Thoudam Sanjoy alias Itao (30) son of Th Khogen of Kontha Khabam Makha Leikai was found dead in his house in the wee hours today.
Family source said that he died ofa heart attack.
Sanjoy is one of the persons who locals as well as the JAC formed in connection with the murder of Roma cast suspect of being involved in the murder of Roma.
The JAC held a public meeting this afternoon, around 2.30 pm, at Ibemcha High School ground at Khabam Mayai Leikai.
The meeting resolved to allow performing of the last rites of Sanjoy but no member of the locality will be allowed to attend any ceremony related with the death of Sanjoy.
Further, the meeting resolved to press the police to book the culprit(s) within 10 days time, to extend cooperation with the police in the investigation into the case.
