Imphal, April 01 2012:
In the latest development over the alleged raping of a mother of two children by her father-in-law on March 27 last, a public meeting today resolved to oust Phulindro and his family from Mayang Imphal and demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs to the victim.
On the other hand, sticking to the claim of his innocence, family members of Phulindro have challenged to conduct tests to confirm the veracity of the allegation.
Enraged over the incident, locals of Mayang Imphal today held a public meeting and formed a JAC against the Rape Case of Bebi Devi and resolved to oust Mongjam Phulindro, the alleged rapist and his family from Mayang Imphal for lifetime.
They also demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs on or before April 10 from the family of Phulindro and threatened to call indefinite bandh on Mayai Lambi from the following day if the demands are not met.
Meanwhile, family members of Phulindro asserted that Phulindro is innocent and no such incident of rape occurred in their family.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here today, Romi, elder son of Phulindro said that his father is innocent in the whole matter and challenged to conduct necessary tests to confirm the veracity of the accusation made by Bebi against his father.
"If ever my father was found guilty of the alleged crime, then I would not hesitate even for a single moment to kill my own father", Romi stated firmly.
Romi contended that Bebi was somewhat mentally retarded and his family had endured everything she did in the past.
She once also said that she will destroy the family one day.
But no one paid any attention to her threat since she was not like a normal person.
While decrying the destruction brought about by local people to his house, he said that it is not a responsible act of the society to react in such destructive manner over a silly accusation without even finding out truth.
Talking about the surrender of Phulindro to the Police, Romi said that Police began searching for his father since the afternoon of that fateful day.
Samananda, younger brother of Bebi, who is in Manipur Police also came to their home on March 29, two days after the alleged rape and broke his wife's almirah.
After they left, a cash amount of Rs 2 lakhs for selling a vehicle recently and other golden ornaments of his wife were found missing.
Hearing about the news, a councilor of the area who met Phulindro on the way told him about the threats by Samananda and the possible consequences if Samananda ever found him and he persuaded Phulindro to surrender to the police, Romi said.
Premila, the eldest daughter of Phulindro, who was also present at the press meet, said that the claim of Bebi that she phoned her in the morning of March 27 to tell about the incident was a lie.
"Bebi did not make any phone call to me nor did I go to my maternal home to bring my father Phulindro to her home", Premila asserted.
Premila said that Bebi does not know how to use a mobile phone and so the possibility of making a call to her is out of the question.

Phulindro's wife Thaba also said that she had never known Phulindro involving in any undesirable incidents involving women since his youth.
