Tension still high in Khurai

Imphal, March 17 2011:
Tension in Khurai area following the death of an alleged robber on Monday remains high even as police have arrested three persons in connection with the case.
Amidst tight security, residents of Kongpal Laishram Leikai today attempted to attack the house cum shop at Khurai Chairenthong that was involved in the death of Yendrembam Naoba @ Bidyananda.
After police foiled the attempt, residents again gathered and marched a protest rally from Popular High School ground to Thangjam Leikai amidst the tight security.
The rally was filled with slogans like "Ngangkham Raghu (owner of the shop where Naoba was caught allegedly while trying to steal goods) is a murderer," We condemn the killing of Naoba," etc .
At the concluding part of the rally, they blocked the Imphal-Ukhrul road at the adjoining area of Kongpal Laishram Leikai and Thangjam Leikai and held a public meeting there.
The meeting in which representatives of women's bodies of the area reaffirmed to continue their agitation until their demands
are fulfilled.
Protestors are demanding booking of Ng Raghu alleging that he had murdered Naoba and thrown him in the pond.
Residents also informed that police had arrested three persons, Ng Ranjit Singh son of Angoujao, Yengkhom Babu Singh son of Late Y Angangjao and Yengkhom Khoibung @ Nabakumar son of Y Babu, in connection with the death of Naoba.
