Imphal, July 23 2021:
Taking serious note of the political tug of war between BJP and Congress amid the Covid-19 crisis, CPI Manipur State Council has asked both the parties to pay more attention towards fighting the pandemic.
Interacting with the media after getting his second dose of Covid vaccine on Friday, CPI state secretary L Sotinkumar said that now is not the time to play dirty games of politics but to save human lives by making all possible efforts to contain the pandemic.
Instead of joining hands in chalking up strategies for effective control of the pandemic, BJP and Congress are indulging in a political tug of war in the race to power, which is very unfortunate and should be stopped immediately.
He then charged the government of taking political mileage out of the fund sanctioned to fight the pandemic by depicting it as the party's achievement.
In reality, the BJP government has been ignoring the repeated appeals of CPI to convene an all-political party meet to discuss the pandemic and its impact.
At the same time, the government is failing to control the Covid crisis and there seems to be no political will to take up effective policies to curb the pandemic.
Considering the increasing number of new cases despite imposing curfew for months, it is time to question the reason for failure, he said.
Sotinkumar also demanded that as promised and officially notified the government should deliver food-grains to the people of the state at their doorsteps during the total curfew imposed by the government.
