Imphal, July 21 2021:
Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) has urged private school authorities to uphold academic career of students, who have dropped out due to Covid-19 so that they do not lose their precious academic years after the pandemic is over.
In a statement, SUK said that some students can afford to get admission and pay monthly tuition fees to attend online classes during this crisis period.
However, maximum of the students are from poor families, who are facing immense hardships and financial issues during the pandemic.
Not every family has smartphones and many might be facing the infectious disease itself.
Unfortunately, some school authorities are taking up strict measures against their students with some even forcing the students to drop out if they cannot admit in time, the statement said while terming it as a crime against students during this crisis period.
Such types of schools are seeing the students as commercial objects only and they are not interested in grooming the students, SUK said.
On the other hand, there are still several students, who are not getting proper information for online classes, and as a result they are not attending their classes.
The school authorities might have their own shortcomings in this regard but they should also understand that the parents are facing various types of hardships too, the Union said and offered to help in facilitating communication between the school authority and students if there are issues in communication.
SUK then urged school authorities to treat such students as their own unless they have sought transfer certificate, and to allow admission any time keeping in view of the pandemic.
SUK further said that it will not remain silent if any school is found denying admission or forcing such students to lose their academic years.
SUK urged school authorities to deduct certain fees from the admission fee.
Informing that several schools in the rural areas of the state are not conducting online classes, the union urged the government to look into the matter.
On the other hand, some schools have begun admission process for class 11 even before the examination results have been declared, the statement pointed out and urged the schools to extend the last date of admission form submission 10 days after results declaration and to adopt lottery system to select students.
