National Library Week begins

Under the theme of 'Read, Learn and Service', the National Library Week Celebration, 2011 has begun from today at the premises of Manipur Library Association (MALA), Keishampat.
The inaugural function of the week-long celebration being organized by MALA in collaboration with Department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University was attended by Librarian of Manipur University Dr Th Khomdon as Chief Guest, President of MLA N Inaocha Singh as Guest of Honour and Head of Department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University Dr Th Purnima Devi as Functional President.
At the occasion, Assistant Professor of Department of Library and Information Science Dr Ch Ibohal Singh narrated the history of National Library Week and said it was USA which started celebration of National Library Week in 1958 under the theme of 'Wake up and read'.
In India, the celebration was started in 1968 beginning from November 14 till November 20 in commemoration of the Ist All India Library Conference.
The President of MALA N Inaocha also presented three books published by MALA namely 'Reading Habit and its impact on Manipuri society', 'Libraries imparting fuller education' and 'Public libraries in ICT-driven knowledge society' to Dr Th Purnima Devi for the departmental library of Manipur University at the occasion.
