Imphal, November 14 2011:
Not satisfied with the report submitted to the Election Commission of India that expenditures related to past elections in some of the Assembly Constituencies had been ordinary, concerned Deputy Commissioners have reportedly been instructed for a fresh revision of their reports.
It is reported that some DCs in their report to the ECI had mentioned Assembly election related expenditures in some of the Assembly Constituencies as reasonable which was however not convincing to the ECI after which it subsequently insisted that the reports be reviewed.
The revision of election expenditure should involve the State's Chief Electoral Officer, the Deputy Commissioners and district Election Officers (DEOs), an informed source quoted instruction of the ECI.
The source revealed that DCs concerned listed election expenditures regarding Assembly Constituencies under Imphal West and Imphal East district as reasonable or low, while expenditures in the Assembly segments of Bishnupur and Tamenglong district were graded as high.
Significantly poll related expenditures for Assembly Constituencies under Thoubal, Chandel, Ukhrul, Churachandpur and Senapati districts were not submitted to the ECI, disclosed the source.
The source also confided that North East Region's Director of Income Tax (Investigation) DP Haokip would be arriving here tomorrow to hold discussion with the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur on various election-related issues, particularly on monitoring mechanism of expenditures for the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, scheduled early next year.
