Foundation stone laid for Modern Terracotta Crafts Project

As part of Manipur International Textiles Expo MANITEX organized by Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Manipur at Lamboikhongnangkhong, MLA Hiyanglam AC Dr Yumnam Radheshyam laid down a foundation stone to build a new "Modern Terracotta Crafts Project" at Thongjao, Kakching district, which will enhance the livelihood and income of potters and craftsmen.
The said project will be constructed by MANIDCO Ltd as Executive Agency under NERTPS, Government of India while the foundation stone laying function was graced by MLA Hiyanglam AC Dr Yumnam Radheshyam who is also Chairman of MANIDCO Ltd as chief guest while Director Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Manipur K Lamlee Kamei as functional president and Deputy director Handlooms and Textiles Manipur government E Jeeten Singh as guest of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, chief guest MLA Radheshyam said that Modern Terracotta Crafts Project at Thongjao is a sole project bestowed on Handlooms and Textiles Department and the Manipur government has approved to build the project at such location as Thonjao is known for its artisanship and mastery in making pottery and other handicrafts.
He asserted to build the project sooner than later while adding that modern machine and technology will be added in the project to increase the efficiency and quality of the products thereby increasing the earnings and revenue of the potter and the artisan.
He further said that honorarium will be provided every month to the beneficiaries on the basis of cluster division and appealed the public of Thongjao to extend cooperation to complete the project.
