Consultation meeting on children's safety organised

World Vision India, Imphal West ADP in association with DCPU Imphal West organised a consultation meeting for stakeholders at the office of Kodompokpi Gram Panchayat, Mekola on Sunday with regard to formation of a Village Level Child Protection Committee (VLCPC).
The meeting was attended by Kodompokpi Gram Panchayat pradhan Th Nandakumar Singh; Lairenjam Meijrao GP pradhan T Manglemba Singh; Malom GP pradhan L Ingocha Singh; Imphal West District Child Protection Officer Y Indramani; and World Vision India Imphal West ADP programme manager Asosii Loli as presidium members.
The participants also included 36 officials and representatives of PRIs, District Child Protection Unit-imphal West, World Vision India-Imphal West ADP, NGOs, CBOs, teachers, ASHA, AWW, ANMI(GNM), Mekola Leimakol, differently abled persons, and Children Clubs.
Speaking on the occasion, World .Vision India Imphal West ADP Coordinator Development Facilitation Doren Heisnam pointed out that as crime against children is one of the biggest challenges faced by the state, there is the need for a new mechanism and strategy to prevent crimes against children.
He also remarked that quality of tomorrow's Manipur and even it survival will be determined by the wellbeing, safety and physical and intellectual development of the children today.
Presenting an outline of the existing mechanisms of VLCPC and the guidelines of Mission Vatsalya, District Child Protection Officer V Indramani reminded all representatives about the need for care and protection of children, while stressing that the protection existing at the village level VLCPC is the only platform at the village level that can voice and address all these child-related issues.
Before reporting to the police station, people should get in touch with to child line (1098) first, and then all requirement proceedings will be delivered by child line officials, he added.
He also mentioned about some protective mecha nisms, child sponsorship programs (ICPS), and child adoption, while appealing to all members to be vigilant and help make a strong functional VLCPC so that the 3 GPs (Kodompokp Lairenjam Meijro & Malam) would be role model for the state in the coming days.

children can enjoy their childhood and live a full life, which in turn, will help them grow up into responsible members of the society in the future.
During the meeting, 3 VLCPCs were formed, with committees having 12 members including pradhan, 2 children, 2 teachers, 2 ANM, 1 ASHA, 1 AWW, 1 CBO/NGO, 1 PWD, and 1 DCPU.
Later, all participants took a pledge to ensure that the VCLCPs are made functional effectively.
