Imphal, May 06 2012:
In yet another instance of subjecting the people to unnecessary trouble in the name of developmental work but largely on account of insensitivity of the state administration, the normally busy Keishampat road just before turning towards Paona Bazaar was dug up causing traffic chaos.
As no prior information had been given in connection with digging up the road along the eastern side of Keishampat Bridge and blocking of vehicular traffic on the northern flank of the bridge, commuters were taken by totally surprise and forced to endure the traffic snarl.
However, digging up of the road during the day and causing traffic problems, has been justified by officials of Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) on the ground that it has been done to drain in water to the Water Supply Scheme located near Keishampat Power House and also to place underground water pipes to supply water to the public.

An Auto rickshaw driver carrying passengers told Hueiyen Lanpao that the digging up of the road was taken up today afternoon without any prior information to the general public that such activities would be carried out.
It is becoming a way of life in Manipur where some engineers of PHED sought the permission from the district SP and carried out the process of digging and blocking the road.
The department concerned should have at least informed the public through print and electronic media.
This could have saved the people from lot of troubles, the autorickshaw driver observed.
Another passerby said that there seems to be no law at all in the state.
If at all the blocking and digging process of the road is to be taken up, the people should be informed at least one day ahead.
It may be mentioned that Keishampat junction is a meeting point of all the vehicles coming from four directions namely, Mayai Lambi, Tidim road, Sanjenthong and Waheng Leikai.
The area has already been facing huge traffic problems as a result of the digging up of the road along Waheng Leikai.
