VDF man among two held for vehicle lifting

Imphal, May 06 2012:
Two persons including one VDF personnel, who were trying to snatch a vehicle (Suzuki Access) at gunpoint, were rounded up by villagers and handed over to the police.
The incident occurred at a place located between Sangaiyumpham and Tentha at around 11:30 pm yesterday.
The VDF personnel has been identified as one Md Imran Khan and his partner as Md Yunush Khan (30) of Sangai Yumpham.
Relating the incident to mediapersons at Manipur Press club here today, Okram Anandkumar, owner of the vehicle, said that he along with two of his colleagues was heading home after enjoying Thabal Chongba at Tentha.
They were stopped by two persons holding a gun on the way between Sangaiyumpham and Tentha.
The two persons were also accompanied by some other persons who were sitting inside a van.
The two persons snatched the vehicle and one of them rode away while the other holding the gun tried to leave in the van along with the rest.
At that point, Anandkumar and his colleagues tried to stop the gunman from getting away and it led to a tussle between them.
At that relevant time, some local people came out and rounded up Md Yunush Khan although his accomplices managed to flee away in the van.
Later, the locals made Yunush khan to call the other person with the stolen vehicle.
The vehicle was later brought by Md Imran Khan.
Both of them were subsequently handed over to Thoubal police and further investigation is on, Anandkumar informed.
