Parity of man, woman in society stressed

The Manipur Women's Development Cooperation Limited (MWDCL) observed its 17th Foundation Day at the office of Rural Women and Children Development Welfare Association, Toubungkhok today.
Speaking on the occasion, Patsoi MLA AK Mirabai said a society can called truly developed only when women and men in it are treated equally and give space for existence side by side.
If the women in a society are made to lag behind in every sphere for long, that society would not move forward, she added.
She further stated that MWDCL has provided ways and means of earning their livelihood to many women in Manipur.
But still it is far from fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the women community due to shortage of manpower.
As a part of the function electric sewing machines and looms were distributed to 300 women who have received training under MWDCL for six months.
Mirabai assured that these women who have been given electric sewing machines can avail loan at minimum interest rates.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Speaker of Manipur Th Lokeshwar observed that a number of Manipuri women have their counterparts in other states in various fields.
There can be peace in Manipur only when both man and woman are treated equally, he added.
The function was also attended by G Satyabati, Director of Social Welfare Department; Dr L Ibetombi, Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women; RK Noyonsana, Chairperson of Manipur Social Welfare Board, Imphal; L Ibobi, Under Secretary of Social Welfare Department and Razida Khan, Member of Manipur State Commission for Women.
