Ukhrul, February 05 2017:
The Upper Lamlang Development Organisation (ULDO) has demanded immediate shifting of 44/27 polling station, failing which the villagers will boycott the coming 11th State Assembly, reports Mungchan Zimik.
According to a statement issued by ULDO chairman, L Phungthing, polling station No 44/27 of the village was shifted from Lamlang Happyland primary school to Lamlang Gate upper primary school, which is 7.5 kms away from the village.
The ULDO has apprised the discontentment of the voters on the shifting of the polling station to the District Election Officer/DC, Ukhrul and urged him to review the order.
ULDO secretary VS Samson said that it was under the ulterior motive of some vested persons that the polling station was shifted and the villagers were not consulted.
According to him, the earlier polling station is more convenient for the village voters as it is located in the periphery of the village.
The villagers have strongly objected the decision to shift the polling station to a remote area, which is more than 7 kms.
The ULDO demanded immediate review of the order in the interest of the people.
The villagers have threatened to boycott the election in case the district administration fails to address the demand in time.
