Orphan sets eye on becoming an Army Officer

Imphal, April 01 2012:
"I will become an Army Officer and serve the state and also help other unfortunate children like me staying at Children Homes at my best level" said Abhamsu (name changed) .
Although abandoned by his family and left to grow up in an orphanage away from parental love and care, Abhamsu is hopeful of becoming an Army Officer in future.
Nine years old Abhamsu is one among many orphans staying at Eden Resource Home located at Toloi Junction, Ukhrul.
The Children Home is run by one VS Tanmila without any financial support from the government so far.
The mother of Abhamsu reportedly passed away while giving him birth while his father expired before he was born.
Abhamsu is one of the most unfortunate and hapless children in the Home.
He was brought to the Home by some unknown persons when he was around five years old.
The Home authority tried to trace any of his siblings and find out his past, but nothing could be established so far.
Presently, Abhamsu is studying in a school run by the Home in class II .
About the school run by the Home, VS Tanmila recalled that it was set up in 1990 at Naga gate but later shifted to Toloi in 2001 .
The school cum children home is now a home to 53 children including six Nepali and two Bihari children.
There are six teachers and one helper in the school.
VS Tanmila further informed that the Children Home is being run with help from well wishers and whatever he could manage.
Tanmila said that time and again he has approached the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur for providing some financial support to the Home which has been registered in 2005 .
But so far no support has been given by the department.
As such the Home continues to face a lot of difficulties specially when the any of the children fell sick.
The Eden Resource Home, has received a number of National awards including India Gold Star Award, 2010; Excellence Award for National Social Activity, 2010 given by the Global Achievers Foundation Award, New Delhi and Rashtriya Vikash Ratan Award given by the Economic Growth Society of India, New Delhi.
