Imphal, January 20 2016:
JNIMS Director L Deben launched an Endoscopy Unit at the medical institute today.
The Director said that the unit had been opened to fulfil Chief Minister Okram Ibobi's dream of providing quality treatment and diagnostic facilities at JNIMS.
He said that the unit would charge 50 per cent less when compared with the private diagnostic centres and hospitals.
Installation of an endoscopy machine became a reality in JNIMS due to the efforts of Medicine HOD Dr Iboton and gastroenterology super specialist Dr N Suraj, he said.
Dr Suraj said that Manipur witnesses many cases of stomach bleeding, liver ailments, breaking of oesophagus blood vessels.
Saying that atleast 2-3 patients are hospitalised in JNIMS due to the above cases every day, he said that such cases can be treated only through endoscopy.
He also expressed hope that the newly launched endoscopy unit would become an advanced treatment centre within 4-5 years.
Monday would be reserved for routine examinations while emergency services would be available on the remaining days, he said.
