United ATSUM renews demands

Holding the first executive meeting after resolving the earlier differences between the two groups, the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur has renewed its earlier demands placed before the State Government.
In a statement, the student body said that the meeting was held yesterday at TRI, Chingmeirong with Joseph R Rmar in the chair.
Recalling the demands placed before the State Government in the last 2/3 years and discussing the indifferent attitude of the Government in addressing the various issues of the tribals, ATSUM said that the meeting minutely discussed the pending charter of demands as well as the three 'anti-tribal Bills' .
Amongst others, the issues deliberated during the meeting included regularisation of contract lecturers, ST Commission, regularisation of adhoc teachers, power of Addl Director Hills (Education S), backlog quota in every department, special recruitment drive for ST and filling up all the ST backlog posts especially in JNIMS and Manipur Legislative Assembly, transfer of land records, creation of BEd centres in the hills, overlapping of police jurisdiction and the demand raised by STDCM.
The student body further said that creation of a sepa rate State Commission for ST under Article 338-A of the Constitution was seriously discussed in the face of the assurance of the Chief Minister that a functional ST Commission would be given as a New Year gift of 2015 .
ATSUM also expressed displeasure over the frequent bandhs on Tiddim road, causing immense suffering to the people of Churachandpur and urged the protesters to lift the ongoing bandh in the greater interest of all the people of Manipur.
This is also the time for students to return to their respective places to purnur higher studies added ATSUM.
