Polio immunization to begin today
Around 3.55 lakh children to be immunized in 3551 polio booths

Imphal, February 18 2012:
The first round of the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme to be organized under the aegis of Directorate of Family Welfare Services, Government of Manipur would kick off from tomorrow and continue till February 21 .
This year, the IPPI programme would be launched throughout the country under the theme "Towards a polio free world" .
In Manipur, the IPPI would be carried out in two phases.
The first phase would be from February 19 to 21 and the second phase from April 1 to 3 .
Around 3.55 lakh children in the state are being targeted to be immunized during the course of the programme.
For this, 3551 polio booths have been reportedly established.
The authorities concerned have also appealed to all the parents to bring their children who are 5 years old and below to these polio booths for necessary immunization.
It is said that to ensure success of the IPPI programme in the state, an action plan has been developed and different committees have been formed.
Chief Secretary of Manipur, DS Poonia is the Chairman of the State Level District Committee.
Moreover, 7,058 teams for house to house campaign to ensure immunization of children who could not be taken to polio booths have also been formed.
Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme was launched in 1995 .
