Imphal, February 18 2012:
Protesting against the new traffic regulation imposed by the state government prohibiting entry of vehicles in Paona Bazaar, all the shops in the area remained shut down from 11 am today.
The aggrieved shopkeepers have also announced their decision of continuing with the shut down till February 20 .

The government has imposed the new traffic regulation on a trial basis for a period of month with effect from February 13 with a view to ease traffic congestion in and around Khwairamband Bazar area.
Along with that 17 authorised parking lots have been allotted in different parts of the city.
A shopkeeper of Paona Bazaar told Hueiyen Lanpao that the step taken up by the state government to reduce the problem of traffic congestion faced by the people is laudable.
But the government should also consider the problems faced by the shopkeepers following ban on entry of vehicles.
With enforcement of the new traffic norms, the number of customers coming to Paona and Thangal bazaar has come down considerably, thereby affecting the daily sale proceed.
The shopkeeper said that the impact given by the new traffic regulation, which again is not a permanent solution to the problem of traffic congestion, to the people in general and the shopkeepers in particular, is highly condemned.
The aggrieved shopkeepers in Paona Bazaar and Thangal Bazaar have appealed to the state government for lifting its ban on entry of vehicles.
Announcing that the shutdown would continue till February 20, they warned that it would spread to other important market places of Imphal if the government does not give due importance to the demand.
