Sangai Inti Film Festival to begin on Nov 25

As the Manipur Sangai Festival (Nov 21-30) fever sets in, people can now look forward to more excitement from the 3rd Sangai International Film Festival (SIFF) 2017, which will be jointly organised by the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) and the Film Forum Manipur with support from the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur.
The SIFF will be held from Nov 25 to 29 as part of the Sangai Festival.
In a press meet held this morning, Art and Culture Commissioner M Lakshmikumar, IAS, said it is a special moment for those who are into films and such art forms.
The film festival not only provides a platform for film-makers to reach out to the audience and but also encourages them to promote their films, the Commissioner told the gathering.
He added the festival will help create a conducive environment for making films in the State.
MSFDS Secretary Hamom Naba informed that the SIFF will present a number of acclaimed films that include both feature and non-feature films.
Five films from Iran, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Cuba and United Kingdom, which are borrowed from the library of Kolkata-based Russian Centre of Science and Culture, will be showcased during the festival along with four feature and eight non-feature films selected from the 9th and 10th Manipur State Film Award 2017, the secretary said.
Entry to the film festival will be free of cost but visitors will require a simple registration, which is meant for an official headcount, added the secretary.
Alongside the delight of watching award-winning films, the audience will also have interaction programmes with the filmmakers.
Special stalls will also be opened to showcase the history of films and cameras in Manipur, along with the exhibition of old, historical equipment and technology.
For the visitors' pleasure, arrangement is underway for making a food court, elaborated Hamom Naba.
