Imphal, November 17 2017:
In offering administrative posts, different treatments are meted out to specialist doctors who are employed by the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur and those working at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), according to a source.
Under the Directorate of Health Services, the age of retirement has been increased to 65 from 62 but specialist doctors are still officially debarred from holding administrative posts, which subsequently result in the doctors holding the post of a director for only a short duration before retirement, informed the source.
Specialist doctors who are above 62 are still given the post of an additional director and the source questioned if this is not an administrative post.
Besides, the State-funded JNIMS should be considered as a Government institute though it is run by a society, said the source and added in this institute, a specialist doctor can hold the post of a director till the age of 70, thanks to an approval from the Medical Council of India.
The source further drew the attention of the Government to look into the rule of the Health Department which stipulates that anyone above 62 cannot be a Director.
