Imphal, August 04 2018:
As the National Sports University Bill 2018 was passed in the Lok Sabha yesterday, MP Dr Thokchom Meinya has strongly urged upon the Union Government and Ministry of YAS to immediately start works at the Haraothen site and develop the mother campus before opening other outlying campuses/centres elsewhere.
Keeping in mind the importance of Polo (Sagol Kangjei), the MP called on the Centre to establish an Institute of Polo under the National Sports University to promote the game further.
"Manipur is home to Polo.
Regular International Polo Tournament is being held in Imphal Pologround every year.
Establishing an Institute of Polo will be a blessing and a good gesture to the Polo lovers of the wolrd," said Meinya.
Meanwhile, National Sports University Haraothen Protection Committee (NSUHPC) has lauded the Central and the State Government over the development.
The NSUHPC in a statement today, recalled that a three-member delegation of the committee had in July visited the and urged Centre to abstain from opening any outlying campuses and centres before the mother campus become fully functional.
The committee said that it had requested Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore to visit Haraothen site in person.
The Minister had agreed to visit after the monsoon session of the parliament, it added.
