In the series of kidnapping of government officials allegedly for ransom, a top official of the Manipur Forest Department was detained for around two hours by suspected militants of Kuki Revolutionary Front after abducting him from his native village on Wednesday.
Principal Chief Conservator of Manipur Forest Department, Seiboi Singsit was kidnapped by militants from his native Keithelmanbi village in Kangpokpi, Senapati where he went to attend rituals of his mother's death.
Three armed militants took away the officer who was attending his mother's funeral rituals today around 9.30 am along with his vehicle (MN-01W-5402) but was released unharmed at 11.30 am, a police source said.
On what condition he secured his release from the militants could not be confirmed from the officer but police suspect he was released after he paid the monetary demand served by the outfit.
Police have registered a case and have started an investigation into the case.
They also recorded the statement of the officer but refused to disclose the officer's statement.
The kidnapping and release of the officer took place while police with the assistance of the security forces were on a hectic effort to track down the five officials of the PHED kidnapped by the KCP (MC) on November 27 from Taphou area, Senapati along the NH-39 .
Demanding safe release of the five officials, families of the officials and staff of the PHED has initiated an indefinite cease work strike from yesterday.
