Two-day training programme held

A two-day training programme on Introduction of Peace and Nonviolence in schools of Manipur, began at the Multipurpose Hall of SCERT at Lamphelpat today.
SCERT, Manipur Director Dr M Meenakumari Devi, Gandhi Smiriti and Darshan Samiti, New Delhi Director Dipankar Shri Gyan and its Programme Officer Dr Bedabhyas Kundu among others attended the function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In her speech, Dr Meenakumari pointed out that the role of SCERT is to provide academic and resource support to the school education for achieving quality education, providing supports in terms of training to teachers, preparation of qualified future teachers, conducting policy researches, framing of curriculum/syllabi both for school and teacher education and revision from time to time, learner centered pedagogy and transformation of schools eceteras.
She added that eduction aims for holistic development of every individual child and tries to supplement the present need of our society in the school education system in the curricular areas both in scholastic and co-scholastic areas to develop certain skills.
Noting that future teachers are the target group of SCERT, the Director went on to stress on the importance of imparting knowledge of peace and nonviolence based on Gandhian Philosophy and developing necessary skills.
While exuding confidence that the two-days training programme will be quite beneficial to the teachers and students of the States, Meenakumari informed that the main objectives of the training programme include acclimatizing the teaching community and students on the different dimensions of peace and nonviolence.
She also conveyed that facilitating contribution of the teaching community and students to peace building, exploring nonviolent alternatives to resolution of conflicts in educational institutions and in daily lives apart from imbibing principles of nonviolent communication in daily lives are also the main objectives of organizing the training programme.
