Eight tortoises rescued

Thoubal, November 29 2019:
Forest officials have rescued eight tortoises from Jeevan Hospital Kakching today.
The animals were rescued during a drive which aimed at rescuing wild animals being kept at homes as pets.
The drive was led by Pallel Beat Officer Md Sallaoddin under the aegis of DFO Thoubal Debala Laiphrakpam.
Adoption of wild animals as pets is punishable under Wildlife Protection Act 1972 .
The drive will continue at localities, gardens and hospitals, said the Beat Officer urging all to report wild animals being kept in captivity as pets.
Thoubal Wildlife Warden W Ramchandra, Kakching Range and staff of Pallel BO took part in the drive.
