State cabinet discusses flood damage report, decides to seek special package from Centre

The State Cabinet in its meeting on Friday carefully discussed on the damage report of the recent flood and decided to seek from the Centre a special package for the flood victims.
The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi at the Chief Minister's Secretariat started at 4 pm.
Spokesperson of Manipur Government and Education and CAF & PD Minister, Moirangthem Okendro said that the Cabinet meeting discussed about the Flood Damage Report submitted by Public Works Department (PWD) .
He said the Cabinet decided to send a report of the damage to the Centre to request a special package for the flood affected people.
It may be mentioned that many important bridges in the State were washed away or damaged in the recent flood caused by incessant rains.
The flood destroyed large areas of paddy fields and farms in various places.
Okendro said that the Cabinet also approved to extend the retirement age of doctors working under Manipur Health Services (MHS) from 60 to 62 due to lack of sufficient number of specialist doctors in the State.
The minister said that there should be 2,203 doctors in respect of MHS Specialist Grade, Grade I, Grade II, Grade III and Grade IV, but only 1,130 doctors are in service now while there are 1,073 post vacancies.
On average, around 45 doctors retire every year in the State.
To fill up the gap of vacant posts of doctors, the State Cabinet unanimously resolved to extend the retirement age of MHS doctors, said the minister.
West Bengal and Orissa have already extended the retirement age to 62 while Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have extended the age to 65, added Okendro.
To further strengthen the power of State Election Department, the Cabinet also decided to create 43 posts of Assistant Election Supervisor (AES).
