Imphal, August 26 2012:
Coming down heavily on Border Roads Organisation (BRO) over its slow progress of work along National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road), Transporters and Drivers Committee (TDC), Manipur has denounced it as 'complete failure' .
Taking serious note over the matter, TDC is also all set to submit a 'failure report' on the performance of Monitoring Committee to the Gauhati High Court.
The Monitoring Committee was established to ensure progress of the work along the National Highway, considered to be the second lifeline of the people of Manipur.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection today, H Ranjit, President of TDC, pointed out that the diversion routes from the bridges at Gularthol and Leingangpokpi have remained unfit for transportation of vehicle for around 15 days.
With BRO applying hardly 1-2 truckloads of pebbles daily, the two diversion routes could never be fit for travel.
This is the precise result why more than 500 loaded trucks are presently stranded.
He informed that another 500 plus vehicles, both passenger and goods laden trucks have also been stranded near Gularthol Police Station.
These roads are being repaired by one Bimol Goshwami, SE (Civil), BRO.
But looking at the way the roads are being repaired, it seems there would be no immediate end to the problem of transportation.
The Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh led Manipur government should not stay idle thinking that the work of repairing NH 37 is the responsibility of BRO.
The government should do away with the habit of remembering NH 37 only when there is blockade or bandh along NH 2 (Imphal-Dimapur Road.
The government should remember that more than 3,000 vehicles are plying along NH 37 on monthly basis, he added.
Ranjit alleged that the Monitoring Committee, which was formed to look after work progress of BRO along NH 37, after a PIL was filed by volunteers of TDC, is today under the influence of BRO.
The Committee has completely forgotten its duty.
