Lamka, August 26 2012:
Olympic medalist MC Mary Kom today received a fitting reception here as people in thousands flocked the streets and the reception venue to have a glimpse of her while the ADC Churachandpur has gifted her a 'Mithun' and christened a stretch of road after her.
Arriving here at about 12 noon alongside her husband, mom and dad, the pugilist was accorded an advanced reception at Kangvai village by the CDSU and CDSA besides other villages along the Tedim Road.
On reaching Lamka Public ground, the main reception venue, she was carried by NCC cadets around the ground with the company of an IRB band-party.
Moments later gifts began to shower on her with the Autonomous District Council Churachandpur gifting her the valued mammal Mithun, and its Chairman Langkhanpau Guite declaring that a road stretch of about 3 kms at Tuibuong has been christened MC Mary Kom Ring-road in honour of her achievement in the world boxing arena and the London Olympics.

The shower continued even to the last moment of the four-and-a-half hour programme as each of the MLAs, MDCs and all significant organisations were given a chance.
Showing the medal she brought home to the crowd Mary Kom said, 'I have attained what I have always wanted, because of your blessings and prayer' .
She was all praise for her husband whom she declared as the pillar behind all her successes.
She repeatedly acknowledged the blessings and prayers, the blessings and prayer she received throughout the Olympic Games, and also mentioned of the vandalism that happened in the district the night she lost her fight.
In a sense, it was necessary she said before breaking into laughter.
But that was loath by God she added, suggesting, 'maybe we should appeal for regular power supply during important games to the Government in writing' .
Through the Olympic medal, Mary Kom wanted to spread the message of peace, unity and respect which she identified were crucial to bring more laurels home.
"When news of violent acts at home keeps coming, it distracts our focus," she said.
Incidentally, a policeman on duty at the periphery of today's programme injured a 65 year old man identified as Dongzapau of Hiangtam Lamka when he reportedly fired his service rifle.
The exact circumstances of the incident remained hazy even at the time of filing this report.
The injured man in yesterday's bomb attack is at the ICU in Shija Hospital.
The Commander of 27 Sector Assam Rifles, in his address to the gathering also hailed Mary Kom as Magnificent Mary and acknowledged her endeavour to bring home an Olympic medal, besides winning the World Championship title five times.
On behalf of 27 Sector, the Commander presented her the most coveted memento of the Assam Rifles during the reception programme.
