Imphal, June 05 2013:
Terming the State government as "anti-people", Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has said that the government is trying to please the non-locals by neglecting the voices of the indigenous people.
A statement issued by Media Coordinator of JCILPS Somorendro Thokchom said that the State government has sidelined the issue of Inner Line Permit System despite of a resolution taken by the State Legislative Assembly.
The movement of the indigenous has been wrongly propagated as "anti-national" by the State government.
The unchecked rise in the population of non-locals has affected the demographic pattern of the State thereby threatening the existence of indigenous people.
There have been many instances where non-locals are involved in crimes and violence against women and children in the State, it said.
The govts of other NE states are seriously concerned about the welfare of their indigenous people, but the State government under the leadership of Okram Ibobi has been focusing only to thwart the rightful movement for the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, the statement added.
The JCILPS has also imposed one month's ban on the operations of bus (MNO1-1158), Bolero (MN02 ATR 814), Alto (MN01-2374), Winger (MN01W8814), Tata (MN01-6738), bus (MN-036019), van (AS02A6497) and Tata (WB 41F0687) for defying the restrictions of the Committee in transporting non-locals to the State.
