Imphal, June 05 2013:
Taking digs at the Opposition parties, MPCC (I) president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today said that their recent announcement that they would field common candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha election is a sure indication that none of the Opposition parties can stand on their own feet and fight the election.
Addressing the gathering at the unveiling statue of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at Congress Bhawan today, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the desperation of the Opposition parties is a sign that the Congress is on a strong footing.
Along with the unveiling of the statue of the first Prime Minister of the country a one day political conference of unit Congress Committee Presidents was held at Congress Bhawan.
Going on the offensive against the Opposition parties, Gaikhangam said that the public would not be gullible enough even if the Opposition parties come together, as they do not have any common issues.
Today, due to the effective governance of the Congress Government, there have been far reaching changes, with the people able to see and witness things which they could even dream of ten/twenty years back, he added.
Asserting that the Congress party will only go from strength to strength, Gaikhangam said that to the party all the 2649 polling stations in Manipur are equally important.
The achievement, policy and programme and vision of the Congress Government is founded from the grass root level, he added.
