Biometric attendance system

As part of the State Government's effort to enhance the state of higher education, Education Minister M Okendra launched biometric attendence system for teachers of 16 Government colleges today.
In the launching function held at DM College of Science, the Minister who attended the function as chief guest directed the Principals not to permit those students who do not attend classes regularly to appear in the examination.
The Minister said that out the existing 28 Government colleges, biometric attendence system has been launched in 16 colleges in the first phase.
The project which costs around Rs 16 lakhs is being taken up with technical assistance from X-treme Wave, Mantripukhri as the implementing agency.
Saying that efforts would be put in to install the same system in all the remaining Government colleges within this fiscal, the Minister said that attendence of the teachers would be monitored from the Directorate through GPRS with the installation of an Auto Data Master System.
He added that the Directorate would also consider installation of the biometric system for students' attendence as well.
The Minister also distributed library books to various colleges in today's function.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation and CADA Parliamentary Secretary Vungzagin Valte was the president of the function.
Higher Education Commissioner P Vaiphei, MLA Preshow Shimray, University and Higher Education Additional Secretary Kh Raghumani and DM College of Science Principal R Ranabir were also present at the occasion.
Later, M Okendra also inaugurated an SBI ATM at DM College campus.
