Hindrance to development is anti people: Gaikhangam

Condemning the abduction of IFCD officials by some suspected militants yesterday, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has categorically stated that those people who are trying to hinder development works are anti-people with subnormal intellect.
It may be mentioned that Superintending Engineer of Irrigation Circle-II under IFCD N Karunacharya, Executive Engineer of Dolaithabi Barrage L Surchandra, Contractor Sanayaima Sharma and representatives of M/s RM Sinha & Co namely Debjit Sinha and Abhijeet Sinha were abducted by suspected militants while they were returning after inspecting construction works of Dolaithabi Barrage from near Pukhao Bridge at around 5 pm yesterday.

Talking to media persons at his office chamber here today, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also in-charge of the Home Department, said that the police personnel swung into action to rescue the officials as soon as the report of their abduction came in.
The Police Department is leaving no stone unturned to trace the whereabouts of the abducted officials, he noted.
He further said that Dolaithabi Project is one of the important development projects that would benefit lakhs of people in the State.
People should not cause hindrance to development works and give unnecessary harassment to the officials working for the State, Deputy Chief Minister averred.
Gaikhangam maintained that development works are not meant only for a section of people, but they are for the welfare of the whole State irrespective of castes or communities.
No individual or organization should try to derail development works in the State, he added.
He also appealed to all concerned to release the abducted officials safely as soon as possible.
However, the Deputy Chief Minister refused to disclose the organization involved in the abduction of IFCD officials.
