Imphal, December 01 2013 :
A 12-member delegation of leaders of all political parties based in the State left for New Delhi from here today to meet the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister and urge them to bring out an amicable solution to the controversial loss of State's territory to Myanmar as a result of the ongoing border fencing along the yet to be demarcated Indo-Myanmar International boundary.
However, the leaders of MPP and BJP remained aloof from the delegation alleging the State Congress Government of certain irregularities in this border episode.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi left for New Delhi prior to the departure of the political parties' delegation from here today.
The delegation was led by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
Talking to media persons before the departure, Deputy CM Gaikhangam said that the political delegates are prepared to meet the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister in New Delhi by December 4 .
A memorandum drafted by all political parties based in the State would be submitted to urge the national leaders to resolve the Indo-Myanmar border issue amicably.
He expressed optimism that the UPA leaders would heed to the words of political leaders of the State and take up joint boundary survey with Myanmar in order to settle the border dispute at the earliest.
When asked about leaders of MPP and BJP abstaining from the delegation, Gaikhangam said that border fencing is a state issue and it should be handled in the interest of people.
Mere politicization of this issue would not bring any solution, he added.
