A public meeting held against cyber crime at Thoubal Mela Ground today decided to put forward the demand for instituting cyber crime investigation cells at State and district levels to the Government.
The meeting was organised by the JAC constituted against uploading of a denigrating picture of a 15-year-old girl on Facebook.
Demanding befitting punishment of the culprits, the meeting also condemned the families of the involved persons for defending them.
Different civil society organisations and student bodies which took part in the meeting pledged to extend support to any agitation initiated by JAC in this connection.
Representatives from Joint Students Co-Ordination Committee, Thoubal District Khunai Kanba Lup, Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation, United Committee Manipur and other NGOs attended the meeting.
It may be mentioned that a nude picture of an unknown woman, which was photo masked with the face of a teenager from Thoubal, was uploaded as profile picture of a fake account on Facebook recently.
Two teenager boys including the main accused of the crime have been sent to Observation Home, Takyel while another man involved in the incident identified as Kongbrailatpam Okendro alias Commando (31) of Thoubal Achouba Makha Leikai is in the judicial custody regarding the incident.
Hearing of the case will be held on May 5 .
